“My work has mainly focused on alternative American lifestyles; documenting non-religious spiritual events and traditions; the culture of children and the Youngest Witnesses of 9/11; animal rights issues; environmental issues; urban and rural landscape photography; and natural-light portraiture. I attempt to cover a good amount of "positive" stories, as the mainstream world seems to be addicted to negative — albeit important — news. Positive news, which is often as simple as a successful community experiment, is rarely as dramatic or emotional, but coverage is often essential to its continuance. The pressing problems of the Earth demand positive solutions, and the media has a primary responsibility to go beyond token reportage. In addition to my magazine work, gallery shows have given me the opportunity to exhibit Burning Man and other photographs, and my prints are making their way into people's homes, which is wonderful and humbling.” ~ Gabe Kirchheimer
